Course Description:

This is a case-based approach course to veterinary internal medicine problems, which concern every clinician, in areas related to digestive and urinary systems. We will learn how to construct different and effective diagnostic programs, how to minimize the list of differential diagnosis and how to achieve the most accurate diagnosis possible. We will learn how to determine the prognosis and the most appropriate treatment.

At the end of the course you will be able to immediately apply what have been learned to your patients.

Course topics

  • Dyspagia and Emissions – a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The causes of swallowing and emission problems, case studies and treatment options.

  •  Dysbiosis – the digestive microbia in conditions of health and disease, syndromes associated with dysbiosis and antibiotics in the face of stool transplants.

  • Diseases of the stomach and small intestine – vomiting, diarrhea, digestive problems and absorption – access to acute and chronic disease conditions.

  • Diseases of the colon.

  • Chronic Hepatitis in Dogs – What is known in common breeds in Israel and around the world, the connection to copper storing and other metals, diagnostic approaches and treatment.

  • Cholangiohepatitis and triaditis in cats – diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

  • Fat liver in cats – prognostic factors, important markers in diagnosis and therapeutic approaches.

  • Acute pancreatitis vs. chronic pancreatitis – different faces for one disease?An idiopathic inflammatory background against autoimmune and infectious diseases of the pancreas and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in dogs and cats.

  • Complications of acute pancreatic infections and prognostic factors – renal impairment, clotting and breathing disorders.

  • Bile duct disease – the link to hormonal diseases and transition from surgical treatment to medical treatment.

  • Correct interpretation of azotemia, new tools used (SDMA), future markers of renal function.

  • A therapeutic approach for patients with acute kidney disease (includes ureters obstruction).

  • Chronic Kidney Disease – Treatment of the patient’s entire range of problems.

  • Urine incontinence – new treatments and approaches.
