Practical Veterinary endoscopy - gastrointestinal tract 28-29/5/2017
Don't miss this great opportunity to join the emerging field of veterinary endoscopy.
Endoscope is used in veterinary medicine as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool, and its use is rapidly grows as part of the transition in human and veterinary medicine to minimally invasive medicine. Many procedures that were previously performed surgically and required prolonged hospitalization are being replaced today by minimally invasive procedures in which the patient undergoes the surgical procedure with minimal insicion site and on a day-care basis.
Examples of endoscopic procedures:
- Endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal tract – esophagus, stomach, small intestine.
- Endoscopy of the lower gastrointestinal tract – rectum, colon and ilium.
- Cystoscopy examination of the lower urinary system.
- Vaginoscopy – An examination of the female genital tract.
- Rhinoscopy – examination of nasal cavity.
- Bronchoscopy and tracheoscopy – examination of the upper respiratory tract
.
The range of endoscopes is extensive, but can be divided into two groups:
Hard endoscopes, which are used mainly for rhinoscopic and urinary and genital tract examinations in females, but also for laparoscopy.
Flexible endoscopes used to test the digestive system, the respiratory system (including the nasopharynx cavity) and the urinary system in males.
Indications for endoscopy are many: Endoscopic exam allows direct observation of the tissue being examined, endoscopy is effective in direct organ examination, which can not be done by other diagnostic means (such as imaging).
Examples include vomiting, emission, chronic diarrhea, suspected foreign body or space occupying lesions (eg, granulomas of spiroserca lupi or neoplastic masses), and more.
Beyond direct observation, it is relatively easy to obtain a final diagnosis by biopsy, with invasive and tissue damage (as required by gastric surgery, bowel or esophagus, or respiratory system).
In addition, the endoscope is a wonderful therapeutic tool that can save complex and sometimes almost impossible to do surgeries, such as: removal of tumors by lasers, enlargement of the esophagus or colon by balloon, placement of a gastric tube (PEG), and more.
This endoscopy course, will focus on the digestive system (upper and lower), it is a theoretical and practical course , intended for experienced veterinarians or those with basic experience in endoscopy.
The course will cover all topics related to the types of endoscopes available in the market, endoscope operating, cleaning and maintaining. Thorough information on equipment and recognition of normal and pathological structures of the digestive system.
Alongside the theoretical part, emphasis will be given to wet-labs that will enable practical experience of the studied subjects, closely directed by experienced guides who have been involved in endoscopy and training for many years. The wet-labs will use the dogs and cats corps donated to science by their owners and specially prepared for the course.
Please note that the course is very practical and more than 50% of the time of the course is devoted to labs in which the various techniques will be demonstrated and each participant will personally experience the implementation of the procedures and techniques learned.
The course is divided into small groups of 3:1 participants:instructor, in order to increase learning ability and therefore the number of participants is very limited.
